Red and the Rabbits

Around 1956 Ronnie Morgan happened to spot a couple of young rabbits, on his way back to Granny's house. They were hopping around in an open field, away from any houses. They were  tame rabbits for sure  because they didn't put up much of an escape effort. Ronnie managed to get the critters to the house and build a pen on the ground, you could call it a hutch, I suppose. Guess who had to buy rabbit food. Granddad of course. He was always kindhearted, to a point. (when he couldn't take anymore). The idea of the whole thing was to keep them for pets, but  you may know what rabbits do in close quarters. They multiply. Granddad had a cure for the predicament; he just dressed them out and brought them to Granny to drop in the frying pan.  One day uncle Red (Granny called him Leroy) came through the house from the living room to the kitchen, with his plate in his hand. Now Uncle Red never did like the idea of eating rabbit, fried or otherwise. As he sorted through the golden fried pieces  in the plate , on the stove; Uncle Red called out "MAW, I don't know how you cut up this chicken; but it Sure Does Taste Good" We never did call Leroy; Uncle; we just called him" Red". We knew he would be good to us, no matter what.
