The Old Time Drive Inn Theatre

I was always around in those days; for you see, after role call, in last period PE class; I would ease around the corner of the building, there at Borger Junior High, and head out for the highway on the East side of town. Since it was always on a Friday; there would be the whole week-end to "Ramble". The other day, I came across an old letter Granny had written in 1961 or 62 when I was in Germany. She wrote; "Sometimes I catch myself watching the back door to see if you have come to stay for the week-end". Granny used to tell us "Look what the cats have drug up and the dogs wouldn't eat". Anyway I would hitch a ride on Friday and Morris would always take me home about Sunday evening. He never complained, I guess he enjoyed the drive. Lonny and Ada Jean always offered Red and me to go with them on casual outings. One time we went to the big Theater on main street in Pampa to see "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and the little skinny Actress, who played Danny Keyes' girlfriend. It was a Beautiful Technicolor Picture to see at Christmas time. Well there was another time when Lonny and Red  cooked up a plan to go to the Drive-in theater. They had to work something out; for in those days, and that day in particular, a dollar was hard to come by. I think they had a Chrysler Sedan at the time and as planned, (The planning was always done in Granny's Living Room) Lonny, Red, and Myself, wriggled ourselves into the trunk of the car and Ada Jean drove to the ticket booth and purchased one Adult ticket for the movie. You can imagine the Lady in the booth as she turned her head, with her eyes stretched wide open to watch the old blue Chrysler; Swinging Low in the back-end, as it  dissapeared into the darkness, over one hump and another, to the back row of the Drive-in. Of course, we had to wait a few minutes for things to settle before Ada Jean could get out and open the trunk lid, for us to get out. I don't remember if we had money for drinks and popcorn, but it sure gave us something to remember. "Thank you Lonna Jean and Sammy for bringing back some old Memories.
